Award Winners And New Arrivals At HCWC

What a great High Country Festival we had in the Mansfield District, concluding with a fabulous day at the Mansfield Picnic Races on Melbourne Cup Day.

The weather bureaux certainly was on a winner with the weather-fine, warm and sunny. Just the occasion for some delicious Upper Goulburn Wines to be consumed.

Speaking of winners, here at High Country Wine Cellars we only back winners. We had already backed the Little River Sparkling Shiraz, and they have taken out a Bronze medal in the recent Australian Sparkling Wine Show Awards at Marysville.

Now we are on another one with the new arrival of Rocky Passes 2010 Syrah, which has just won a Silver medal at this year’s Australian Small Winemakers Show, following two bronze last year.

Rated 94 in the James Halliday Australian Wine Compendium, he describes the wine as having: “a complex bouquet of leather, spice, and licorice over black fruits, the medium to full bodied palate providing a replay of the bouquet, but with greater intensity; excellent cellaring potential and outstanding value.

At $25 per bottle for the Syrah, and $30 for the Sparkling Shiraz, they represent fantastic value and quality drinking.

Also just arrived is our own house brand 2008 Riesling which was locally grown and made near Mansfield by one of our larger vineyards. This wine has grapefruit and lime aromas, great length of flavour, and a mineral finish with crisp, natural acidity.

The High Country Wine Cellars 2008 Riesling sells for just $10 per bottle, so grab some now for great summer quaffing.

This weekend see’s the Targa car rally come to the High Country, with a time trial around the streets of Mansfield on Friday evening and around Mt Buller, King Valley and Eildon on Saturday and Sunday, and we will be open for business 11am to 5pm over this weekend for tastings and sales.
