Enjoying Some Top Drops This Summer At HCWC

Happy New Year to all you wine lovers out there. May 2014 bring you happiness, health, and good wine.

Mansfield and the High Country has certainly come alive over the summer New Year holiday period, with lots of visitors exploring our wonderful region and all it has to offer.

Our shop has been delighted to welcome many of those visitors, as well as our loyal locals into the cellar to have a chat, a browse, and a tasting or two. Almost all those coming in are amazed to discover how many wineries actually exist in our Upper Goulburn Region, and are loving having a look and discovering a bit more about our wonderful wine makers.

Many different labels are varieties are moving well, but here is the pick of ‘Top drops’ that are selling especially well at the moment.

WHITES: The Sauvignon Blanc from Ros Ritchie Wines and Sedona Estate are both proving popular with their wonderful length of flavour on the palate, while the ‘Don’t Tell Dad’ 2013 Riesling from Murrindindi Vineyards is winning friends as a great example of a young wine drinking well.

But my favourite white at present is Ros Ritchie’s Gerwurztraminer. Our region does this style exceptionally well, and those who have tasted it seem to agree with us, and are taking a bottle or 2 home with them.

REDS: The Little Cathedral 2013 Rose and 2010 Pinot Noir are both doing very well as lovely crisp, lighter summer red drinking, as are a number of our other Pinot Noir’s. The Mt Cathedral Cab/Sauv continues to be a big hit with it’s rich, wildberry flavours, while in a more savoury style, the Sedona Estate 2011 Sangiovese has been running out the door. With a rating of 94 by James Halliday, our customers know a top red when they taste one.

OTHER: Our range of 5 sparkling wines were very much part of people’s festive celebrations, and the Tin Shed ciders have been a hit, especially the Spiced Cider, which was specially made for Christmas, but remains in production by popular demand. If you can imagine a liquid apple pie with lot’s of cloves, cinnamon, and spices you get an idea of how it tastes. On a hot day, try a cold glass of spiced cider with a scoop of ice cream:- a “Cider Spider”!

BEER: The new Mansfield Pale Ale has been a huge hit with lovers of fine beers and ales with it’s big hop flavours, and continues to be in demand.

The town remains busy and we are looking forward to the Australia Day long weekend, and don’t forget we are open EVERY day through January.
